BEFORE USING IT
What should I do first?
- Charge aircraft/controller batteries and update the enterprise app/firmware before a field job.
- Inspect props, gimbal/camera, RTK module connection if installed, memory/storage and controller connection.
- Create a practice mission in an open area before using automated mapping on a client site.
FIRST USE
How do I start without overwhelming myself?
- Fly it manually first. Learn takeoff, hover, braking, RTH and camera/gimbal control before launching an automated mission.
- For mapping, use a small practice area and verify the planned altitude, overlap, route direction, home point and battery plan.
- Watch the aircraft during automation; automation does not remove RPIC responsibility.
CONTROLS & SETTINGS
What actually matters at the beginning?
- Separate 'flying the aircraft' from 'running a mapping mission.' Learn both independently.
- Mechanical-shutter and RTK capability are tools; neither automatically makes the finished product survey-grade.
- If using RTK, understand whether you are using network corrections, a base station, or only recording position data, and what your downstream software expects.
CRASH / DAMAGE PREVENTION
What beginner mistakes should I avoid?
- Do not sell survey/legal-boundary accuracy unless the complete workflow and qualified professional support that claim.
- Do not launch a route without checking obstacles, terrain, airspace and the return path.
- Do not assume automation sees every wire, branch, crane or temporary obstacle.
PHOTOS, VIDEO & DATA
Keep the capture side simple at first.
- For normal visual inspection, prioritize sharp, well-exposed images and repeatable angles.
- For mapping, consistency usually matters more than cinematic settings. Follow the requirements of the mapping software/workflow.
- Use manual settings only when you understand why a fixed exposure/focus is needed across a dataset.
USEFUL ACCESSORIES
What is actually worth considering?
- Enough batteries for the planned mission plus reserve
- RTK module/correction service only if your workflow benefits from it
- High-quality storage and field charging
- Landing pad, cones/visibility gear and appropriate case
REALISTIC USES
What can I do with it?
- Photogrammetry/mapping workflows
- Construction progress
- Visual inspection/documentation
- Repeatable site capture
What is it not suited for?
- Thermal work — M3E is not the M3T
- Claims of licensed surveying from the aircraft alone
- Work requiring a payload the platform does not carry
- Operations outside Part 107/airspace/site permissions
COMMON BEGINNER PROBLEMS
Check these before deciding the gear is broken.
- RTK will not fix: check correction source, sky view, account/service connection and module seating.
- Mission will not upload/start: inspect route warnings, geofence/airspace status, battery and app messages.
- Images are blurry: review shutter speed, focus, aircraft motion and lighting before blaming mapping software.
- Dataset will not process well: check overlap, image consistency, motion blur, altitude and whether the scene has enough visual texture.
